Jay is Sicilian/American, originally from New York and Michelle was born in San Francisco. They met at Bennington College in Vermont, where Jay studied music composition and began experimenting with filmmaking, which led to his love of capturing honest moments of spirit and beauty through photography. Michelle began writing about culture, art and tradition in college, where she earned a dual degree in anthropology and dance. They started a film and photography business in 1992, with a focus on educational, documentary and promotional projects for the arts and NGO’s. Over the years their work developed into a full service media consulting and marketing company, the Cavallaro Group, serving a broad range of corporate, television and media clients including the BBC, the History Channel, PBS, House Beautiful and Wine Spectator.

After living in Vermont for over twenty years; in 2012 they began returning to Jay’s family roots in Sicily’s Mount Etna region, where they now continue to create work for their clients and develop independent projects like Mungibeddu’s Table.
